Sidney Powell, a former Trump attorney charged alongside the former president in the Georgia election interference case, has filed a motion for a speedy trial. Powell’s request makes her the second of the 19 charged in the case to do so.

It’s not even news. Everyone has a right to a lawyer, speedy trial, impartial jury, and a right to know who your accusers are for the charges against you. It’s the sixth amendment. A purpose for having the right to a speedy trial is so the government can’t hold you indefinitely before trial while they make excuses.

In this case it is a bluff. She wants her trial as soon as possible on the assertion that the DA and prosecution are not fully prepared for trial… But I think it will bite her square in the ass because there is no way that they are handing out subpoenas with so much at stake on a whim without having dune their due diligence.

I think the most probable reason is that it’s just procedural lawyer stuff. Maybe it makes sense to request (even more so) when a conconspirator is requesting to change their trial dates. I haven’t read the court documents though
