Why do people brush their teeth first thing in the morning?

The way I’m used to it is: 1. Wake up 2. Breakfast 3. Brush teeth. Having it as 1, 3, 2 doesn’t make sense for me.

For me it’s because my mouth tastes terrible and I want that gone asap

That might be the reason why my breakfast is coffee&cigarettes
