Love the quantity of jamming and musicianship we get in 4.0, but 2012-2015 (plus Fall 2016) is still my favorite modern #Phish to go back to.

2012 - 2016 = All four having one tight musical conversation to build something together

2021 - 2023 = Four equal voices loosely conversing down a path, sometimes hooking up, sometimes not as they go in and out of conversations with each other

As least that’s how it plays out in my head. 🤷‍♂️ https://shakedown.social/@Phreba/110928062442518231

@chopaganda how do you factor in the relative lack of high quality 1st sets from 12-16 into your consideration? What elevates ‘21 (and to a lesser extent, ‘23) specifically into my favorite year of modern Phish are the sheer number of front to back elite shows. The peaks may be higher in 12-16, but also a lot more mailed in 1st sets, IMO.

As an aside - this is my 1st post on Mastodon. Arguably an inauspicious beginning to be defending 4.0 phish as my opening move here, but we’ll see how it goes

@Charlie It’s hard. I can only say that I wish the 2012-2016 band approached shows with the same mentality of the 4.0 band. I just rarely find 4.0 as compelling to play back—no matter how exciting it is live.
@Charlie And congrats.Add a photo, bio, and fun Followgraph.
