pretty close to just putting a silence/limit on fosstodon 🙃
@ariadne why? What did we do?

@mlbiam collectively? nothing.

i just think that having 60,000+ people combined with anglocentric moderation, to the point where admins send moderation warnings to people like Mairin Duffy for the occasional post in gaelic is not reflective of the free software community we should be building.

@mlbiam and, dare i say it, but the admins of fosstodon wish to establish themselves as a cultural element of the free software community, which does not shield them from criticism, no matter how much some fosstodon users believe otherwise
@ariadne read through that thread. understand the frustration. i don't pretend to understand mastodon's moderation capabilities to know how multi-language impacts moderation. How do other large instances handle a similar situation? How much of an issue is the potential for abuse in multiple languages?

@mlbiam @ariadne put it this way: kev quirk put that rule into place in 2018, when this present load didn't exist.

he just wants an english-only server. which nobody else can stop him from wanting, but also nobody over here federates with gab.

@ariadne
How would that affect the ability for people to move servers away from Fosstodon? Still doable, or are people stuck permanently?
@jannem a limit allows opt-in participation, and account moves. a suspend disallows any participation, and thus account moves.
