Three months with the System76 Pangolin - NDLUG

> While a powerful laptop, the durability leaves a lot to be desired. If you’re looking for a quick tl;dr, I wouldn’t recommend it, especially if you’re outside of the US (even in Canada), like I am. Spend the extra chunk and get a Framework 16 inch or something along those lines. Discussion on lobste.rs [https://lobste.rs/s/mtt9em/three_months_with_system76_pangolin]

Framework does seem to be eating the lunch of many laptop retailers.
Not really a surprise there. Half of these manufacturers sell rebranded Chinese machine that are also shipped to 50 other vendors, and half of them develop something mildly different based on the same platforms. Neither quality nor the price are right. With framework, you at least seem to be getting a machine that’s not only reusable, but also doesn’t become e-waste after 3 years

System76 is German, but I don’t disagree.

My last laptop was the System 76 Serval with the 2070.

Really a dissapointment for what really was priced as a top tier laptop. They never really got the firmware where it needed to be. It always felt forgotten by System76/ Pop_OS. Really, I was very disappointment in its build quality. Also, I don’t think I’ll be going with a framework next either. I’m over ‘high performance’ laptops and am much much happier with the big box store thin and light I grabbed. I’ll be putting my GPU/ CPU money into a desktop for performance and keep my lap top a better laptop experience.

System 76 is not German according to anything I’ve read. Claims to be designed and manufactured in Colorado, USA…
Hmm my mistake. I vaguely remember when I was researching my system that they were a using a main board designed by a German company more popular in europe but available in the US as System76. Must be that I’m 100% wrong.
Probably the german company you’re referring to is Tuxedo, but who knows. The number ‘76’ refers to a year 1776 when USA was founded.
Yup, drove right past their spot today!
