Calling the Fediverse “Mastodon” is like calling computers “a Windows”
@alfredohno I would say it’s like calling computers a PC. Which is literally what people do.
@js Somewhat, but PC ‘Personal Computer’ is still a general term that could refer to any computer owned by an individual, it’s just a branded term for… Some reason.
Mastodon, however, inexcusably refers to only one Fedi software.
I’d call the Fedi equivelant to that calling it a ‘blogging site/network’
@alfredohno No, PC is very specifically IBM PC.
@js @alfredohno power PC is Apple
@deilann @alfredohno It’s not power PC, it’s PowerPC, and the PC stands for Performance Chip.
@js @alfredohno yell at a blind person for phone correcting something into two words in a way narrator won't pick up. I didn't say it was personal computer either, so yeah you're a charmer.

@deilann @alfredohno You wrote it in a way that was implying that “Power PC is just Apple’s version of PC”, in response to a toot about “personal computer” (spelled out). When PowerPC is a processor architecture and has nothing to do with the initial discussion about personal computer.

Sorry, but you jumped into the thread trying to be a smart ass. Don’t be surprised then if you get a response calling that out and that it has no relation at all.

@js @alfredohno you are the one who decided that's what I was doing and decided to be incredibly hostile for reasons that are beyond me

As a product of AIM it's another IBM "PC" which I found funny but also Apple (and Motorola)

You didn't call out that it has no relation - you specifically attacked a blind person for something that is difficult to handle

@deilann @alfredohno You act like I know you. I don’t. You jumped the thread and insisted everybody knows you’re a blind person. I don’t know you, I did not know that. When a person jumps into a thread and acts like a smart ass, but smart asses it wrong, they have to live with being corrected. If you consider being corrected after being a smart ass hostile, well, that’s a you problem, not a me problem.

FWIW, “IBM PC” is a very specific term and does never refer to PowerPC. But I don’t think you’re interested in that, only in jumping into threads and then complaining. I would have posted the same response that PowerPC is not an IBM PC if you were not blind and did not have the extra space between power and PC.

@js @alfredohno the cool thing about not being an ass is you don't need to know someone's blind not to decide they're being a smart ass and attack them over how a phone would autocorrect something

you started off making hella assumptions about my intent and then decided to do an ableism at me which you're now justifying as deserved due to... remembering a common joke from my childhood and sharing it

because yes, it was a common joke

and most people would recognize that and not freak out at someone for referencing it

like you kept saying I deserve all this but really, what have I done to you?

@deilann @alfredohno The cool thing would have been to not claim me simply stating that it is not related is hostile. You immediately jumped on it and decided you have been attacked because someone told you it’s not related. “If I jump into your thread and you disagree with me, you’re being hostile” is … quite an interesting take.
@js @alfredohno correcting someone's autocorrect or typo when you know what they mean is hostile and ableist

@deilann @alfredohno It’s not, as it was never about a typo. It was about PowerPC and IBM PC being something very different. Adding the extra space between power and PC looked like just being confused and thinking it’s two separate words and hence related, like two different kinds of PC.

The only hostility I have seen so far is from you, immediately after being told they are not connected, playing the victim card and telling others they’re an ass for telling you they’re unrelated.

I’m not interested in this conversation, it’s very obvious you just want to be outraged and claim discrimination, no matter what, so I’m not engaging anymore.

@js @alfredohno yes, they are different. that was the joke - because they're also both IBM if you saw the second message

see, I had two of them and it was a running joke that you'd say you had a PC and someone would say IBM PC and you'd say yes it is IBM

but instead you decided to try and correct me and tell me what I was really talking about

that's hostile

@deilann @alfredohno You could have just stated that it was a joke among your friends, something I can’t possibly know, just like that you’re blind. You keep assuming everybody knows you, but this is the internet, most people don’t know you, so you can’t just assume that. But no, instead you immediately became insulting.

You could have just calmly stated that like I stated that they’re not related. But you didn’t.

@js “The only hostility I have seen…”

That you don’t see the hostility you’re perpetuating is kinda the point being made. I’m willing to assume you didn’t intend it that way, and maybe even most people wouldn’t interpret it that way. But ultimately, you did make an ableist assumption and acted based on it, and that *is* hostile.

I know the instinct is to get defensive, but please, take a moment to consider the implicit bias you acted on and how you might do better in the future.
