Calling the Fediverse “Mastodon” is like calling computers “a Windows”
@alfredohno I would say it’s like calling computers a PC. Which is literally what people do.
@js Somewhat, but PC ‘Personal Computer’ is still a general term that could refer to any computer owned by an individual, it’s just a branded term for… Some reason.
Mastodon, however, inexcusably refers to only one Fedi software.
I’d call the Fedi equivelant to that calling it a ‘blogging site/network’

Personal Computer
As in the computer of a person
Mantodon is a brand name referring to an extinct mammal
Not anywhere near the realm of just calling it a vague, albeit branded term
Additionally Windows still uses the PC term internally and in the OS, so it is not IBM specific
