I wish the #PoetryCommunity was more like the #WritingCommunity because I see writers of stories talk about their characters and plot lines and have discussions but I don’t know how to find that within the poetry community.

I see a lot of #poetry written and shared, which is lovely, and #prompts that poets can #engage with, but I don’t see the #discussions about what people are writing or #questions asking #poets about what they are writing.

Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places or expecting something that doesn’t exist. I get so discouraged from sharing my poetry because there is no engagement with it beyond a like or a rarer boost.

Even when I comment on someone else’s work, there is rarely much of a response.

Where are the people who want to talk about poetry and not just write it or read it?

@nona80_swanette

But the poet's journey is spent alone!
Trying so hard to atone,
For the arduous hours spent
Mining their thoughts,
Then cursing when nought
They find on the travelled path,
But stubbing their toe on a stone!

@cchogan

Time to rewrite that because no ones journey should be alone.

@nona80_swanette - I have only just written it! :)

@cchogan

Is there a mandatory waiting time on editing? 😂

@nona80_swanette - Very much so. There should always be few cups of coffee involved first.
@cchogan I’m more of a tea drinker myself, usually whilst writing … and while editing … and while ruminating on editing … and it’s probably best to just hook up an IV of tea at this point.
@nona80_swanette I would find that very motivating. Especially since I once wrote a lot of poetry and now struggle with it. Maybe, if we keep posting questions and discussions on poetry, we can make it a thing?!
@Mistresswitchwrites I hope we can! I just don’t want it to get too academic, more like a book club style discussion for poetry - what people have been reading, recommendations, help finding words when we’re struggling, beta readers, and things around poetry (podcasts, live readings, interesting articles, etc).

@nona80_swanette I totally get you! Just a fun, relaxing and helpful place for poetry writers. That sounds so wonderful.

Can you think of a hashtag to collect that under? Poetryroom? Or PoetryCafe?

@Mistresswitchwrites I like PoetryCafe for the hashtag, doesn’t look like it’s in use currently. I’m happy to get the ball rolling, I’ll have a think about a good introduction and post something in an hour or so!
@nona80_swanette Wonderful! I'll be watching out for it!
@Mistresswitchwrites have put up a welcome post. #PoetryCafe is officially live! Thank you for the name and the inspiration and just for being awesome!
@nona80_swanette I'm glad I could help. This looks really cool!
@nona80_swanette maybe @WordyCurator will have a suggestion???
@Billthoo @WordyCurator cheers, I’ve just given them a follow.
@nona80_swanette I've actually been thinking a great deal about this. Their are a few writing chats that go on for stories, but nothing for poems and it seems very unbalanced. Idealy, how often would you like to see discussions, and on what sorts of content? @Billthoo, thanks for flagging me into this conversation!/concept--absolutely what I'm here to help with! ✨✍️
@WordyCurator @Billthoo I think, maybe once a week would be fine. I started up the hashtag #PoetryCafe with the help of @Mistresswitchwrites so will put up a discussion point every Saturday night Australian Eastern time but any help and input is gratefully received.
@nona80_swanette @Billthoo @Mistresswitchwrites I love the name, and that's a nice easy frequency for people to jump into, especially getting started. I will find the toots for it and boost them when I'm properly back into the swing of things—took a tiny break and will be back tomorrow!
@nona80_swanette @WordyCurator @Billthoo Me peotry day is usually Tuesday to Wednesday, and if I come across a thought or question while writing, I would also use the hashtag for sharing, if you like :)
@Mistresswitchwrites @WordyCurator @Billthoo that’d be great! The more the merrier. I’m going to try to do a post every Saturday, at least until the ball gets rolling. And I’m going to start posting my own stuff on Thursdays.
@nona80_swanette le Guin wrote in one of her books about a poetry group she was part of. They had prompts or forms they would write in (like a Sonette), meet weekly, and talk about their poems. I would love this. (But for German poetry)
@hundertsieben my German is very bad but feel free to join us, I would love to read some German poetry. I’d love to meet fellow poets in person but I’ve not found a local group, and the ones I have found are either too far away or at inconvenient times.

PoetryCafe? Well, I"m not sure what this #poetryCafe tag will be about! but here is a poem that I just posted https://writing.exchange/@w0dz/110946710311321833 and in a reply to this message I will add some notes.

Writing Exchange
