While Reuters doesn’t call Manchin or Koch or Uihlein or Wilks or Murdoch activists for fossil fuels.

Just endless headlines attacking people trying to do good, while coddling corrupt actors who do selfish things. It’s maddening.

@protecttruth does the term "climate activist" have a negative connotation now?

@msb98 @protecttruth I think the issue is one of "normalizing" advocacy for the status quo despite its problems, or in other words, implying that it's somehow "unusual" to be concerned about the climate and the problems that fossil fuels et al. cause for the climate and want to do something about this problem.

Perhaps he could instead be labeled as a "businessman"?

That said, as @conlan notes, advocacy for climate issues appears to be Steyer's main thing lately.

@ReedLindwurm @protecttruth Labelling him as a "businessman" sounds infinitely worse than "climate activist", considering Biden's planned visit to Maui wildfires after this vacation which is a climate change issue. Between these two headlines, which do you think sounds more positive?

The unfortunate truth is, caring about the environment is an unusual thing, even though it shouldn't
