@tokyocameraclub I'm clueless on the text, while the image is astonishing.
@jerry
my mastodon.online interface shows a translate button with every foreign text message. Very convenient.

@MichaelSchagen

Yep, the tool it available to akkoma as well.

However there are a couple of questions I need to have sorted out before activating it, maybe you can help me as you have it activated

  • It there send any user data to DeepL or is it running through a proxy
  • Do I need an API key for the free version?
  • Something I forgot to write down 😄
  • @jerry
    I'm not a mastodon admin but a bit of googling made it clear that:
    - The DeepL translate service does not require user data, just the to be translated text.
    - You will always need an API key.
    Some DeepL doc: https://www.deepl.com/en/docs-api/translate-text/translate-text
    Some mastodon doc: https://write.as/sweetmeat/how-to-activate-the-mastodon-v4-deepl-api-text-translation-service
    DeepL API

    DeepL API Documentation - everything you need to get started with the DeepL Application Programming Interface. Integrate DeepL functionality into your CAT tool or your own application with ease.

    Hey @MichaelSchagen have been investigating a bit more on #deepL. The fact is they comes with 2 major issues

  • It using #CloudFlare
  • They somehow come to the idea that I should surrender my CC for using a free subscription product 💳 🤡
  • However, I will be following up on another translation tool called LibreTranslate, based on the Argos Translate.
