The fediverse is much less slanted towards individual clout and more to shared interests. Following a hashtag will bring the posts right to your timeline, from anyone, including people you do not follow. Today is #FensterFreitag or #WindowFriday, which will bring pictures of windows to your feed. I also recommend #mosstodon and #bloomscrolling against doomscrolling.
