So, if I'm reading this correctly Microsoft's privacy and data-handling options around the use of browsing history are all opt-out buy default, and also when you install Edge it silently imports your Firefox browser history right away without asking you.

So I unless I'm reading this chain of events incorrectly, just installing Edge at all silently feeds your Firefox history into Microsoft's ML models, which is definitely cool and not a problem at all.

@mhoye I had planned about blogging about this but spent a lot of time just telling people on reddit about it instead.

But yeah, Microsoft is pretty awesome.

@yoasif I see you are sarcastic by default. Love the attitude.

@mhoye and smartscreen which 'protects' you by sending the details of every file you download to microsoft to 'make sure it's safe'
and of course, default search is bing
and also, their 'security service' checks every website you to go to make sure it's 'safe'
look, this is clearly all for our own good and we should be thanking them!

@mhoye I am increasingly of the belief¹ that there is simply no safe way to use any software from that company.

¹: "increasingly" is a lie, I've felt this way for 25 years or more, but my I-told-you-so-per-hour rate has really been breaking new records in the last few years
