Does anyone have any experience with the Henson Shaving razor blades?

Until I can get laser hair removal the blades for my razor cost like €35 every month or two, and that's always bother me along with how polluting that is.

Their razor sounds good, but I've minimal knowledge here and just don't wanna deal with facial hair & dysphoria. #HensonShaving

@thisismissem I haven't used the razor myself (I use a different safety razor, the Blackland Vector.) But from what I've read, the razor itself is awesome, and pretty forgiving, but the RK blades that it comes with are kinda meh. Of course, it's different for everybody, so you may love them!

If you get a razor and are unsure of which blades you prefer, there are sites like razorbladesclub.com where you can buy small quantities of many different blades to try out.

@nguarracino yeah.. I'm just trying to figure out if I should buy it because hopefully in a years time I won't need it. I guess I could sell it? Idk, or use it not on the face? I guess it'd work in those places?

@thisismissem For sure, Hensons are popular for body shaving! There are others as well, you may want to have a look at Leaf razors, too.

Also, if you don't get a great answer here, there is a shaving-centric Lemmy instance: https://sub.wetshaving.social/c/wetshaving

It's not as active as the original Reddit sub r/wetshaving, but there is a daily thread for questions. There have definitely been similar questions from trans folks in the past (though that may have been back on Reddit, I can't remember for sure.)

@nguarracino I only know of Henson because of YouTube promotions of them (ads)
@nguarracino basically, things related to my facial hair make me horribly dysphoric, and I just can't often with thinking about it, so I'm unlikely to look elsewhere (e.g., I've been using the same Gillette razor for the last.. 8 years at least I think)
@thisismissem Of course, familiarity and comfort are super important! Making a change *would* likely involve a bit of a learning curve before you regain that comfort, so even if there are good reasons to switch (much cheaper blades being one) it's not quite that simple.

@nguarracino I'm mostly looking for a closer cleaner shave, one I can do more regularly and the cost saving.

The Gillette blades that I use I can only shave every two or three days, as my skin gets irritated otherwise, and the result of the shave isn't as clean as I'd like.

@thisismissem That makes sense. The Henson may be a good choice then, as it is supposed to be quite mild. The only tricky thing is, you may not want something that is *too* mild, since it may require several shaving passes before it gets as close as you'd like. And the more you drag the blade across your skin, the more likely it is to get irritated.
@nguarracino hmm, okay, good to know!
@thisismissem As a smaller first step, have you looked into using different shaving cream/soap? If you're using canned foam or gel, it may not be as protective. It wouldn't save money on blades, but there are tons of fun scents from dozens of small shops that may help reduce irritation a bit.
@nguarracino hmm, I think there's a shaving specialty store near me, but so far I've just been using like.. some canned stuff for sensitive skin, and the Gillette pro glide blades with the little thingo on them that wears away.
@thisismissem Oh, that might be worth checking out! Then you can smell everything in person πŸ™‚
