It is nice to see the fediverse getting airtime at #defcon
@jerry With the death of #infosec #Twitter, the #fediverse is truly where you need to be for infosec content which is amazing! (Especially here on infosec.exchange & infosec.town 🙂!)

The scene over at
#Bluesky can't compete when it comes to infosec...
@deltatux it’s good to hear you say that - it seems like the big “Infosec personalities” have mostly moved on to bsky. Perhaps I am wrong though.

@jerry Feels like I'm still seeing a good number of personalities sticking to the Fediverse, and big voices like Cory Doctorow are still pushing federation over these maybe one day federated services like Threads/Bsky

@jerry ya they are there but the interactions I find is just not the same in terms of having an actual conversations. Largely it looks like people just posting to their timelines but then you don't see many replies or boosts if there are any...

Lots of "big names" seem to post on both here & Bluesky, at least the ones I know of...

Heck, on a personal level, I get way more responses here vs. there when posting the same stuff. I think
@mttaggart also experienced something similar too...
@deltatux definitely seems like the common attitude amongst people on my feed is "I will have a presence on these services to maintain awareness, but the Fediverse is my home"
@majdumpsterfire at the moment that's exactly how I feel as well. Have a presence there but really I'm here full time.
@deltatux @jerry The accounts are there, the conversation is not. I'm not seeing any research or useful discussions about the profession. I'm mostly seeing a lot of angry people angry about the world. Which, fair, but it's to the exclusion of everything else.
@mttaggart perhaps i am not using it right, but I don’t see much at all. I see a lot more than on threads, but that’s not saying a lot. @deltatux
@jerry @[email protected] I guess? You know I gave Threads the benefit of the doubt but honestly in both cases, just utterly devoid of conversations worth the effort.
@mttaggart @jerry ya, Threads is just people sharing photos, influencers and brands shoving content down people's throats and that's about it right now. Not much in terms of infosec content, though not sure if it's any better if they improved the search...

And as for Nostr, there are infosec people but most of the overall community there are just cryptobros and with the lack of moderation, it's kinda a free for all there.
@jerry Oh? Anything specifically?
@urda the Defcon gang runs defcon.social and there are LOTs of pics of banners with their site on it. Also, many of the presentations have fediverse handles now.
@jerry That's pretty awesome. I'm new to Lemmy and Mastodon so I'll have to go check that out.
@jerry I happen to be in Vegas for an unrelated family trip. Where are all the coolest Fedi people tonight?
@CaptMorgan great question. I am home with Covid so will boost your post
@jerry 😢

@CaptMorgan @jerry My favorite place in Vegas is the Pinball Museum.

@jerry @CaptMorgan ouch. That happened to me last year. Hope it's minor symptoms for you.
