LionGlass: New Type of Glass That's Greener and 10x More Damage Resistant - Lemmy.world

Glass that’s greener?

Shouldn’t it be the grass that’s always greener?

Oh that ok. It’s not green on this side.
Glass is greener on the other side due to physics
Soda lime glass, yes.
pass, I want clear glass.
I’m still waiting until we switch to transparent aluminum.
Aluminium oxynitride - Wikipedia

That's a ceramic. Not exactly what people mean when they say "aluminum."

neither is “transparent”

this IS what I was talking about, or, rather, the real-world version of it. I was making a Star Trek reference in my previous comment, for those who didn’t catch it.

Star Trek's Transparent Aluminum Has Now Been Invented

A technology first imagined in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is now a reality just in time for Star Trek's 50th Birthday.

Sounds pretty neat!
But is it cost effective?
they don't say but it uses significantlly less energy which I believe is the biggest expense in glassmaking. Im hoping it can be a replacement and that we might see more glass containers come back given its greater strength thus lower chance at shattering from a fall.
Ohhhh! Greener as in more environmentally friendly, not color.
