This is a good example of what AI systems like ChatGPT excel at—giving managers and administrators the ability to automate top-down, controversial and harmful decision-making while shielding themselves from accountability. They're a sort of authoritarianism accelerator

Bottom line with #AI text generators: They pollute our information ecosystems with unvetted scripts masquerading as knowledge.

At a time when we should be focused on cleanup and remediation, AI is pouring unfathomable volumes of poison straight into the water.

More simply:

The proliferation of bullshit is killing #democracy.

Generative #AI is a bullshit factory.

@xankarn Our underfunded education system is killing democracy. Educated people are generally sceptical about what any person sais, including LLMs

Democracy is endangered as long as there are enough people who fall for "capitalism is the devil" or "communism is the devil" or "I live in the best country in the world" or "LLMs always produce truth" or other oversimplifications of complex topics.

I HATE this but after reading the article I can't say I blame the school staff. They've been handed a legal requirement they have no time for and have to make a plausible attempt to comply. If there's one thing the chatbots are, it's "plausible".

@brianmerchant when it crashes and burns it's the AI's fault and if it succeeds and excels it's the decision to adopt it that was key
