Streaming TV costs now higher than cable, as 'crash' finally hits
They compared a basket of streaming services to an average-priced cable package, which loosely makes sense. Individual streaming services are usually only a fraction of the content of a cable package, so if you want to compare prices, comparing the price of a comparable-size bundle of goods is a good place to start.
It all varies from market to market, cable is quite cheap where I live and these numbers wouldn’t hold up in my market.
But who wants to pay money for cable TV when they push as many ads as they do?
I upvoted for generally a good point but the comparable size bundle of goods does not really make sense here - no one will do that.
For me the most comparable bundles were:
Cable TV with HD, 100mbps internet
1gbps internet, with 2 streaming services
While from the cable perspective those do not represent the same thing, they are what I was willing to exchange for, and the second option is still significantly cheaper. I tether probably needs to be included because I needed more bandwidth to support streaming (although not that much more). I would not have considered option 2 with a bundle with the same “channels”: they are not equivalent value to me as a viewer
