I'm planning to go to #SIGDIAL2023 #INLG2023 by train rather than plane, because it's truly astonishing how much worse for the planet it is for us to fly when we can travel over land instead: https://ourworldindata.org/travel-carbon-footprint

We really need a world that's willing to move at a slower pace, taking more time to get places, or we're not going to have a world one day. I'd love to see employers explicitly prioritizing rail travel and national rail services in Europe coordinating to simplify end-to-end bookings

@_dmh Do you have the time to extend the trip even further? In theory conference trips could be combined with research visits to labs along the route you’re traveling, giving a talk at different stops. (Not the cheapest option, but great for presenting your work.)
