Georgia charges Trump, former advisers in 2020 election case - Lemmy.world

Justice comes calling for the fourth time this summer.

I’ll believe that “justice comes calling” when he’s wearing clothes that match his skin color (not his natural gray “corpse twice warmed over” pallor, the John Boehner tribute one).

Not saying that it’s not good that they’re trying, but since he’s rich and powerful in an extremely corrupt system, actual justice for his many crimes will probably come in several years, if ever…

I understand your cynicism, but if there's a silver lining it's that this is a state level charge so he couldn't pardon himself or get it dismissed if he were to somehow win the election. So this trial gonna happen no matter what.
What’s to stop Republicans from installing a governor and pardoning him at the state level?

Georgia is one of five states where pardons come from an independent board and not the governer.

Trump would need to serve 5 years before pardon in Georgia indictment

Georgia's constitution gives pardoning power to an independent board, which can't grant preemptive pardons.
