It’s no suprise that those who are in paid employment to help this country reach Net Zero by 2050 are overworked and underpaid given their qualifications, experience and importance of the work they do.

Talented young graduates and post docs are being exploited by our government that is not even paying lip service to the threats of climate breakdown.

Being underpaid continues long after their first decade in employment - I have witnessed it first hand.

You may argue this is just what modern working life has become for most people, but there is a fundamental choice for those with a talent for science/maths…get paid handsomely in the City/petrochemical industry or stick to your morals in academia, councils, public sector and be exploited.

We urgently need more scientists than hedgefund managers.
