I live in the US, and it is way more common for people to have an iPhone over an Android. I saw a study once that said 88% of teenagers in the US were using iPhones. What I did not know is that this is pretty much only the case in the US. I read that it is much more common for people to use Android than it is here.

Do you live outside the U.S.? What has been your experience with this? I have never been able to travel outside the U.S., so I have no idea what the phone situation is like anywhere else.

#iOS #Android

@robustjumprope I'm in the us but from what ive read most places online android seems to be way more popular outside the states. over here its unfortunately become a social status too (it makes me cringe).

@lenkotarski Very true. Using a phone should be about which one you like more, not what everyone else uses. But I think ever since apple started the whole blue and green bubble thing, it's gotten really bad.

Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone. But that lock-in is my biggest gripe with Apple as a company.

@robustjumprope i think all phones are terrible. return 2 monke.
@robustjumprope Looking at Statista, Apple has a 28.71% market share in Singapore in 2021. A big chunk of the market share falls under unknown though, so it could be higher. Not more than 40% though, I'd reckon.
@robustjumprope here in Brazil, it's very rare to find someone using an iPhone. It's a lot more common to find people with android, mainly because it's a lot cheaper and "better".

@Mayonnaise It's crazy how cheap a phone you can get and still get an amazing experience these days. I'm currently alternating between two so I can learn development for both. I have an iPhone 12 Pro that my parents paid for and a Samsung Galaxy A04 that I paid $150 USD for. And to be honest, in MOST situations, at least for the basic things, I don't see a huge difference. And my parents spent $1000 USD on the iPhone.

Unfortunately, Apple's done a really good job of putting social pressure on people to use iPhones here.

@robustjumprope i live in Paris. Most people here in France are using an Iphone actually.

@robustjumprope From Malaysia here!

Unless it's an iPhone from at least 3+ years ago, it's harder to find someone using one here compared to Android.

The price point is a huge deterrent -- even going back as far as the iPhone 12 will cost you 2.7k MYR, which on the other hand, can net you a decent 2023 Android phone.

@radiant I think I’m starting to see a pattern here. You don’t have to spend a lot to get an amazing Android experience. But in classic Apple fashion, nothing is ever cheap. I think that like @lenkotarski said earlier, the biggest difference in America is that it’s almost become a status symbol to have one.
@robustjumprope @lenkotarski Oh, it's a status symbol here too. I think that's Apple's gimmick.
@radiant That’s a good point. I really wish the focus would be on the user experience and not popularity or status. I doubt it’s ever going to be like that though.
@robustjumprope @radiant the only language they speak is money.
