If you call your desktop theme a "rice" you're a bit of a dick.
It's a deeply racist anti-Asian slur that made its way from the car world to customised UNIX desktops all of a sudden - like the past few months it seems. It's racist, no ifs and buts about it, and if you use it - you're a racist.
@thomholwerda I don't think it has anything to do with that.
Just as nobody had a problem with Linux master/slave termonology before for 30+ years until the first person was offended.
Why do we even have to rename things that have nothing to do with racism, it's ridiculous.
@Anachron Same reason we don't call black people the N-word anymore. Same reason we don't call Asian people the... Well, you get the idea. Words and meanings change all the fucking time. I have two language degrees. I can know.
Some terms are just offensive, and it takes literally zero effort to change your ways. Change with the times.
@thomholwerda I think that's quite far stretched from going from rice to the N word, but okay, you seem to be very sensible about it.
I was merely pointing to the fact that I didnt know about this meaning of rice and probably 99% of the linux ricers are not either, while the rest doesnt care because it has a totally different meaning.
If you are so caring about a name change, go and suggest a different term and explain the reasoning? If people agree, thats fine with me.
