Any good alternatives to the standard mid-term essay in the humanities & social sciences? I'm looking for something that (a) challenges students to develop a theme; (b) is creative enough to go beyond the question --> response model (i.e. might counter some of the AI traps); but (c) fits a big lecture module (ie provides useful formative assessment while being cognisant of the marking workload).
Examples, links, or pointers to others who have asked this, all welcome! @histodons @academicchatter
