If results are more important that how one gets there, the goal of "no one is starving" suddenly can be reached by shooting everyone who is starving...

Wait a few minutes, before giving any order. Then write into the captain's log: "Mission successful: Everyone alive was rescued". No need to write 0 survivors. Saved you the hassle to do anything too.
