Are there Pokémon TCG fans out there that still attempt to complete their Wizards of the Coast sets? During 2019 before the prices went out of control, I managed to finish off my Fossil, Base and Jungle sets with relative ease. Then in 2022 I managed to complete the Team Rocket set after buying the remaining holo cards at a reasonable price.

But for the Neo sets (Genesis, Discovery, Revelation and Destiny) it has been incredibly difficult. I understand the cards are less common due to the popularity of the series falling off at that point, however i can't help but feel I'll never finish them, and that's kinda sad.

What are your experiences?

@johto I collected one of each mon, so many cards from the WOTC era. Picked them up ~ 2013 ish so they werent too expensive. Not complete sets but satisfied with the card dex.
@tetroe That's a common approach. You can get everything between Base and Fossil (I think) to have all 151 Pokémon. Impressive!
@johto I was working towards having all the black star promos, but the prices went insane during covid, so I think that dream is dead.
@RootTheGoat How far did you get? Did you get the Pokémon Center New York cards? I know i'll never be able to obtain those
@johto I got through the first few dozen, I remember that NYC Pokémon center card being expensive but obtainable, but not anymore. I was keeping them together in a set, but as the price climbed, I just gave up and put them away.
@RootTheGoat I hope someday we are able to get them!
@johto haha I sure hope so! In the mid-2010s, I remember looking at those promos and I couldn't justify spending around $100 on a card I wouldn't play with. Oops, I should have.
@RootTheGoat No, you shouldn't have spent $100 then, or $500 now. It's hard to justify it.
@johto hey that's collecting! You win some, you lose some and you spend a lot of money.
