As promised (to a totally real person who just doesn't happen to be on this app), here's my

*Definitive Guide to the Desserts of JSM*
#JSM2023

Chocolate Fudge Tart - one of the bakeries in St. Lawrence Market

This tart was fine. I could look up where it came from, but I won't. Because when I ordered a "chocolate tart," the server just stared at me like I'd sprouted a third eye until I specified chocolate *fudge* tart. Not the tart's fault, but still.

B-

Bananarama - BeaverTails

Technically from last month, but relevant. Pleasantly surprised by how light and crispy the base is. Still some chewy goodness, but not as heavy as I expected.

8.5/10

Dark Chocolate Sensation Cake - T|Bar

First night in Toronto, too tired to leave the hotel, was caught completely off-guard by this legit chocolate cake. Whipped cream was hardly sweet at all, which I never new I wanted.

✅+

Chocolate Nut Party - T Swirl Crêpe

Entirely too much going on, but somehow it absolutely worked. Even got stuck inside the sleeve as the ice cream melted. The challenge just made it more delicious.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Chocolate Cannoli - cart at Union Summer

Mini cannoli just small enough to not spoil dinner, perfect for an outdoor hangout spot. Filling was delicious, shell was a little crunchy, made it feel more snack-y.

take the cannoli.

Heaven on Earth Waffle - D Spot Dessert Cafe

Another chocolate monstrosity, another suggestive name, still totally here for it. Little heavier than the crepe, didn't have to work as hard, kinda felt like cheating.

Not that hungry, still ate way too much of it.

Chocolate Walnut Cookie - Le Gourmand

Absolutely top-notch cookie. Chewy and delicious the whole way through. I snuck in as they were closing and it's worrying to think how close I came to missing out.

Top 3, minimum

Chocolate and Yuzu Cheese Tarts - Uncle Tetsu's Japanese Cheesecake

Gotta balance out the first non-chocolate entry. Smooth and creamy, actually preferred the citrus-y yuzu (apparently a limited edition). Crust is amazing, just firm enough to make it finger food.

You know it's good if I pick it over chocolate.

Rosemary Cornbread and Orange Pistachio brownies - Butter & Spice

Amazing brownies with exciting flavors! Coulda done with more cornbread (b/c Iowan), but orange and chocolate always works for me, and pistachios added nice texture.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great note to end on!

And that's it! #jsm2023 is over and so is my dessert tour of Toronto. I probably won't do this again unless someone specifically says I should, in which case I probably will.
