@academicchatter

I was lucky to do my PhD in a field that in retrospect feels like a piece of utopia.

Now I see more and more how utterly broken #academia truly is. In certain fields there is so much fear of openness and transparency, I can't help but wonder what skeletons are being hidden.

Instead of being a place of open and fruitful exchange of ideas, it's a cut-throat competition for funds, publications and KPIs. Disgusting.

And what a waste of intelligent minds.

@zenforyen @academicchatter I hope you are not quitting.

@eleni @academicchatter I quit active research right after my PhD, but not for these reasons.

Just felt like the career path to become a professional researcher is too full of uncertainty and sacrifices, and I'm not brilliant enough to even dare trying.

I'm still in academia, but in support now as a software developer. I might stay if I end up getting a permanent position. I love science, but it has to love me back a little, too.

@zenforyen @academicchatter I think most people agree that staying in research long enough depends on who you meet in the process.
