@actuallyautistic

I have a question. I was recently diagnosed as autistic. Now that so many of my struggles have a name, I'm trying to find a way to use this information to improve my life. I've been looking for materials about strategies for adults trying to cope with the drawbacks of being autistic, but I don't know where to start. There seems to be a lot of BS out there, and I want stuff that's evidence-based.

Do any of you have suggestions?

@sarahmaywalt

There are 3 main pieces of advice . 1. Put yourself on the way of accepting being autistic 2. Learn, learn, learn about autism 3. Exchange with and meet autists This is general and recommended by literature.

I don't know what you like. Reading, listening, watching? Keep in mind, we are all different and not everything will fit your taste.

Listening: I put some in a reply.

Watching: Autism from the inside has some good videos. I'm not always the target on some but others are quite nice.

Ask doctor Tony with Tony Attwood (we don't have to like him) gives good advice

Yo sandy sam I'm less the target here but others found it good.

Books: Untypical Pete Wharmby (also his Instagram)

Autistic Masking Amy Pearson & Kieran Rose

Reading: neurodivergent_lou for an easy read

And many many more but I'm a exhausted of my day. I come back tomorrow with more.

I saw you were interested in scientific paper, fact, etc. There are a lot of papers good and bad about autism published each year. Sadly, it's not a mastodon thing but a Twitter one. People exchange and make share these types of resources on this social media. Some accounts:

Autism in Adulthood (Peer-reviewed journal focusing on the most pressing issues affecting autistic adults.)

ASAN which post articles from around the web
