Since SF Rec and Parks issued a permit allowing horse riding in Golden Gate Park, the operator has been fined by SF Animal Control for failing to care for sick or injured horses, got slapped with a manure dumping violation from SF public health, has been the subject of an OSHA investigation, recently settled a successful class action lawsuit for failing to pay its employees, and numerous Park visitors have emailed other concerns about horse welfare and rider safety, including children thrown off horses. Plus this operator has set up mobile homes in the Park to give free housing to its workers. Yet even with all these issues, Parks continues to renew this operator's permit. The San Francisco Commission of Animal Control and Welfare is meeting at 5:30pm on 8/10. Members of the public can attend by phone or WebEx.
