I got a solution for you! I bought this 3d printed clip-on meant for XBOX Series/One. It’s a little loose on the Steam Deck’s joystick; however, that leaves room to put into conductive material to activate the capacitive touch. I used Greg’s LiveZone | Superior Thumbstick Upgrade - Clips on from his Etsy store. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1362835549/livezone-superior-thumbstick-upgrade [https://www.etsy.com/listing/1362835549/livezone-superior-thumbstick-upgrade] At first, I tried it out with aluminim foil and that works. But, it tears easy and is quite slippery. I bought and used a conductive fabric tape from US Amazon: GENNEL 5mm x 20M (0.2in x 65ft) Conductive Cloth Fabric Adhesive Tape, Faraday Tape for EMI Shielding, Interference Signal Blocking, Laptop Mobilephone LCD Repair, Cable Wire Harness Wrapping https://www.amazon.com/Conductive-Fabric-Adhesive-Laptop-Shielding/dp/B01ALDR0D0/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2RLQZ5N7FWDXB&keywords=GENNEL+5mm+x+20M+(0.2in+x+65ft)+Conductive+Cloth+Fabric+Adhesive+Tape%2C+Faraday+Tape+for+EMI+Shielding%2C+Interference+Signal+Blocking%2C+Laptop+Mobilephone+LCD+Repair%2C+Cable+Wire+Harness+Wrapping&qid=1691532968&sprefix=gennel+5mm+x+20m+0.2in+x+65ft+conductive+cloth+fabric+adhesive+tape%2C+faraday+tape+for+emi+shielding%2C+interference+signal+blocking%2C+laptop+mobilephone+lcd+repair%2C+cable+wire+harness+wrapping%2Caps%2C548&sr=8-3 [https://www.amazon.com/Conductive-Fabric-Adhesive-Laptop-Shielding/dp/B01ALDR0D0/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2RLQZ5N7FWDXB&keywords=GENNEL+5mm+x+20M+%280.2in+x+65ft%29+Conductive+Cloth+Fabric+Adhesive+Tape%2C+Faraday+Tape+for+EMI+Shielding%2C+Interference+Signal+Blocking%2C+Laptop+Mobilephone+LCD+Repair%2C+Cable+Wire+Harness+Wrapping&qid=1691532968&sprefix=gennel+5mm+x+20m+0.2in+x+65ft+conductive+cloth+fabric+adhesive+tape%2C+faraday+tape+for+emi+shielding%2C+interference+signal+blocking%2C+laptop+mobilephone+lcd+repair%2C+cable+wire+harness+wrapping%2Caps%2C548&sr=8-3] And there you go! More control during aiming and you can still activate gyro. I hope this helps people!

Conductive fabric is brilliant to fill in the gaps to make covers be more reactive. Great find!
Wait, the sticks are capacitive?
Yep, great for FPS, just put your thumb on the stick and aim with gyro
I was wondering why they were connected with a wire lol
If you have a Steamdeck, you should try Aperture Desk Job, it’s a free game provided by valve to explore all the capabilities of the Steamdeck. And it’s fun.

Introducing Aperture Desk Job — a free playable short made for the Steam Deck, set in the universe of the modestly popular Portal games.

I played it and enjoyed it, guess I missed the capacitive joystick though

So here what it looks like. I forgot to show the back to prove I wasn’t clicking any back buttons. Kinda difficult filming with one hand and a heavy device.

That’s ok, I believe you

Yup!

The top of the Steam Deck’s joysticks are capacitive. Useful for activating gyro, touch menus, and more.

This is my first time on Lemmy and I haven’t used YouTube in a long time; I’m currently trying to upload a demo on YouTube to showcase this works, then I’ll link it in my post.

Does capacitive touch on the analog stick mean that I can just activate a secret button by merely touching the top of the stick? Or is it just the L3/R3 thing with a weird name?
Yeah, so depending on what template you’ve chosen or how you set it up yourself, it can be an additional button that can be activated by just touching top
