MattHaving completed the link from central Leeds in sections over the years, we ticked off the first part of the Dales Way proper with a stomp between Ilkley and Bolton Abbey.
A wet summer has swelled the River Wharfe. It boiled against its banks as we walked beside it, while the grey skies above threatened another deluge. But the rain never came and we arrived in Bolton Abbey largely dry to reward our effort with tea and cake.
