AITA for using the air conditioner too early when my dad told me to only use it before going to sleep? - Lemmy.world

Mostly self-explanatory, but if additional context is needed: My dad came in my bedroom last night. He said the F-word at me and yelled at me over having the air conditioner turned on too early, and I responded that it was too hot. That eventually turned into me daring him to disown me like what he attempted to do three months ago, and him hoping that I be fired immediately from my first job. He also wants to call me “Mr. Sorry” (like has he read too much Mr. Men books?) because in his opinion, I apologize all the time and never make up for it, and I refuse to change. I feel like everything is completely my own fault, and I am starting to turn into a clone of my dad’s worst behavior. He will be right if he sees me homeless on the streets for the rest of my life. I then went to my mom, whose advice is that I should keep the door locked so that he won’t go in next time.

man, its absurd: on one side education takes too facking long to finish (at least until highschool graduation) then comes the expensive part: college, and education wont leave time for u to get a job, or even learn a lucrative apprenticeship, and on the other hand, parent want u to finance ur existence by urself, i mean, why have a child if the finances of raising one dont suit u ? he had better raised a dog pet or something, at least he wont have to pay college for him. i suffered the same thing and parents (and to some extent, boomers, are idiot af ) : the world doesnt offer the same opportunities as before, and the working class is economically opressed now more than ever, how the f a child is supposed to get out of this without their progenitor’s help ?

in a perfect world: highschool graduation should be had at 10 years old of age, learn an apprenticeship for 2 years, at 12 have a job, driver’s license+car purchase, pay ur own rent = financially independant at 15 , and now u earn the right to vote and flip parents all day long.

You realise you are advocating for child labor right? Twelve year olds have no business working dangerous machinery they should be out playing and discovering what life is about.

This aside from an adult that is living with someone who sets weird arbitrary rules without sitting down his adult son and explaining these rules.

I would imagine if the issue is cost, OP would either pay their share or understand and follow the rule.

the main problem here is that the father that is thoughtless: i dont want any kid to slave for their living, but he can’t expect to have anything handed freely to him: in a country that respects itself: such father would be stripped custody and arrested for child neglect, while the kid be provided with basic shelter and education until he becomes ready for the job market. the parents are usually the root of all these problems; just thoughtless maters…

Discovering what life is about

Not being able to afford rent. And the market is so overinflated that my parents house has magically gained 80k in value accounting for inflation despite having no work done to it ever.

For a 1 bedroom apartment. It’s more than my parents pay for their house every month :(
