Application for a conference Call of Papers got accepted. Any tips and suggestions for structuring a conference paper and presentation?

@schlittenhardtm @academicchatter @academicsunite @phdstudents @phdlife I can speak only for my field, where you also publish in conferences (computer science), but

* have a great introduction section to motivate and summarize what you did
* there probably is a page limit - focus on getting the main ideas across, move technical details into an appendix, and publish the full version on arXiv
* similarly, make the presentation an overview and teaser. People who care can read the paper for details

@schlittenhardtm that said, all fields are very different. I learned that different communities have very different styles and practices.

So specifically the part about putting stuff on arXiv for example could make no sense if you're e.g. in biology.

But I think in general just be empathetic with the reader, do not expect that what you do is trivial to others and don't overdo the jargon. Everyone likes papers that are like a good teacher, not like a badly written user manual.

@zenforyen yes, it depends on the field and also on the conference and publisher involved.
