I was in #Minneapois to attend The 34th Magnetic Recording Conference (TMRC). I was paying close attention to the heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) discussions. Seagate have started shipping their first product with HAMR - it’ll be very interesting how the rest of the industry responds.

In memory of a former colleague, the committee awarded the first IEEE Neil Smith Award for Contributions to the Understanding of Magnetic Phenomena in Materials and Devices. Chris Rea’s eulogy for Neil was very apt.
