Question, could we consider the defederation of rammy.site? - sh.itjust.works

They are spreading conspiracy theories, nazi bs and hate, this hurts the fediverse and is making us look bad.

why? there’s like 60 some odd subscribers. that’s basically a dead instance

And? Still Nazis and conspiracy theory shit. Defederating isn’t that much work that it would be unjustified because of that.

Also, why not?

lol why not just stop subbing here and join the beehaw instance?
What kind of argument is that? Are you retarded?
one you disagree with, and then immediately follow by insulting?
No, its just literally not a argument at all, thats why im asking if there is something wrong in your head.
I mean you aren’t wrong but the way you go about writing comments leaves something to be desired.

And what is that something?

Cause im the one that was basically told to fuck off if i don’t like nazi shit in my feed…

Look… you basically discredit anything you say or any point you’re trying to make when you start calling people retarded.

When I was younger I was pretty flippant with saying all kinds of off handed shit. Then I became a father to a boy who has social and mental difficulties and when people just throw out words like that, it fucking pains me.

I’ll just block the instance through my app though…

Nah i ask him if he was retarded, i did not say that he is.

And if you see your son as retarded (thats what it sounds like to me? If not then i misunderstood) thats not my fault, retard is a insult for idiots, not people that have a genuine mental disability.

Oh and how do i discredit not wanting to see nazi posts?

(jerboa cant block instances, only communitys)

That Jerboa doesn’t allow blocking of instances is a massive red flag. Users need to insist on that functionality and switch to a new app if they don’t get it.
Don’t overdo it, the apps are very new and i think the option should be from lemmy itself.

I 100% agree. If you block from the app side, you’re still getting all of that content, you’re just not seeing it. If you block through lemmy, it’ll filter it out for you and other things work as expected.

For example, if you get 10 posts per chunk when you scroll normally, you may get 1-2 or none at all if you’re filtering on the app, whereas if you’re doing it on the server you’ll always get 10. You could also get weird comment trees if the app is filtering comments from blocked instances.

In essence, you’ll get a much cleaner implementation if it’s part of lemmy, and a much larger chance of bugs if you do it on the app. Maybe it’s a little better if the app auto-blocks communities and users from a blocked instance, but that seems a bit dangerous too since it could be relatively difficult to unblock something if you have so many blocks, and surely there’s a performance issue with queries if you have tons of blocks.

So the best solution here is to support it at the lemmy level.
