@TomGauld hits the nail on the head - the corporate #climatechange deniers have their PR strategies in place... the pivot is coming

@ChrisMayLA6

This points to one of the basic reasons why we should resist the urge to preach doomism. It feeds into a narrative designed to pacify us and defeat consistent, wide-reaching and intelligent action in relation to the climate.

@ChrisMayLA6 Very much the approach outlined in the Yes Minister (or possibly Yes Prime Minister, I forget) Foreign Office sketch.
@JubalBarca Yes, I came to the same conclusion around the same time as you… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSXIetP5iak

@ChrisMayLA6 The British satirical comedy TV show “Yes Minister”, included a similar “ouch” joke four decades ago… the one thing we learn from history, is that we never learn from history 🤦🏻‍♂️ https://youtu.be/nSXIetP5iak

Meanwhile... Here I am, a decently educated GenXer (PhDs in history, PoliSci & Government), and general trivia expert, reading this thread and remembering my warnings since Reagan....
@ChrisMayLA6 @baldur … +++ … and sigh is not a big enough word …
@ChrisMayLA6 "All obfuscation is the counter revolution" -Christopher Caudwell
@ChrisMayLA6 The inconvenient truth for Gore is that there is no planetary emergency. Not one of the dire predictions he and the rest of the alarmist community made has come to pass. You Prof could disprove my claim by giving me one Gore climate change prediction that turned out to be correct. You've plenty to choose from.

@Prokyp

OK, I'm game:

Gore predicted the contraction of glaciers at the Earth's poles, which as far as I can see has been happening....

Gore also expected temperatures to his & recent data on the hottest days would seem to confirm that since Gore warned on this there has been a growth in the days reaching record temperatures...

So there are two predictions that seem to have come to pass.

@ChrisMayLA6 don't bother responding to #ClimateDenial #trolls. It is a waste of your time and a waste of typing. Just block them and move on. @Prokyp
@ariadne Blocking gives them valuable metadata about how many interactions they have achieved. Ignoring is much better, because they have nothing to report back up their chain of command... @ChrisMayLA6 @Prokyp
@xChaos interesting. I never thought of this. But I would argue that blocking is still appropriate if it betters your mental health. I think it depends on who you are. There are times I've had to block in order to preserve my own mental health. @ChrisMayLA6 @Prokyp
@ariadne Ok, I have already demonstrated sufficient paranoia in my previous reply. My mental health is already a lost case anyway... :-) @ChrisMayLA6 @Prokyp
@ChrisMayLA6 Climate is always changing, what's your point? Can mankind do anything to stop it changing? Very little.
@cooked @ChrisMayLA6 for one who has been on the earth as long as you have (my lifetime plus half), you either haven't been paying attention to what's been happening over that time, or you're willfully ignorant of the situation, and what steps were recommended back when the alarms were first sounded.
Mind telling us which and why? Of course, you can just ignore this, too (which I expect), and we'll write your comments off as a "drive by derping."

@cooked

Well the majority of scientific thinking is that actually we are causing theses specific changes... but you are right in general the world's environment *is* always changing but we've shoved in a particularly unwelcome direction (for us, the planet is indifferent to such changes)

@ChrisMayLA6 Sadly this is probably bang on the mark.

@ChrisMayLA6

The Canadian paper, the Globe and Mail, the paper to read if you are posted to the colonies, TEN YEARS AGO published a letter to the peasants from the Publisher, arent we so honoured, advising that climate change was human caused, and that it was "too late to do anything."

Once you remember that climate change is not a train destination, but a four year girl in the back seat of a car at Walmart, the "its too late to do anything" advice attains its full sulfer smell and low laugh

@kevinrns

Interesting turn of phrase but I get your point.....

@ChrisMayLA6

I fall over that line like a drunken cartoonist. Interesting enough to read vs fancy florid phrases forcing folks to forget faving.

@alancrowe @weaselx86

as were others - the show remains (depressingly?) still very astute satire

@weaselx86 @ChrisMayLA6

Here's a fact we need to repeat over and over again. It is never too late to do something. The more dire the situation, the more extreme the measures will be. At some point, the only effective measures will be population reductions. This will naturally happen, but it can also be directed.

@csstrowbridge @weaselx86 @ChrisMayLA6 population reduction is already happening! Many countries now have policies to support bigger families. The natural net repro rate for humans is a little over 2 so population is stable or falling. The increase is a transitional state. But most politicians want to provide Panem et Circenses via Ponzi schemes.
We need to reduce our footprint on the earth, it can provide comfortable life for us all but not if those who have most demand 10 times their share.

@epistatacadam @csstrowbridge @weaselx86 @ChrisMayLA6

actually, one single super-rich is not demanding ten times his share, but one million times (according to his ecological footprint)
