JimJerboa has been good to me for the past month, but Sync is such an improvement. It has customization options that just make the experience better all around.
I downloaded Liftoff today. It’s pretty fancy, and ad free.

Lack of 3rd party apps is why a lot of us are even here in the first place. The more developers committed to Lemmy the better the platform will become.

How can people even consider using this when infinity for lemmy exists?

I’ve used sync since 2014 because Sync is amazing. The most recent redesign made it the best looking app I have ever used, and that’s still true to this day. Also Sync can be as free, I don’t have ads because I like the dev and gave him $20. Now I’ll continue to use this app for thousands of hours over the next 10 years.
You are optomisitic thinking Lemmy will be around in 10 years. You can pay the dev $40 though when it’s ported to whatever the new platform is.
ItsamelemmyFrom my brief testing with infinity, it does seem pretty good. I like that the feed doesn’t bounce around like liftoff as images load. But sync just has much more customization. If I wasn’t willing to pay, I’d probably be using infinity. But I had years of use with sync and that improved experience is worth the cost for me.
No “swipe to hide post”. The only swipe actions I can find on Infinity are up/down vote.
I didn’t like infinity because of a big pile of little things. half of which could be described as just habit.
probably I wouldn’t have been okay to stick with it but Sync came to lemmy. sync > infinity hands down. try it.
Spliffman1I’ve been using them all for the past month, jumping around between them. Now I’m exclusively using Sync… It just nails it for me. I have no problem with people using whatever app they like.

I found it quite buggy. I love infinity, but I’m probably gonna stick to Sync for now.
It’s in early development, I’m sure it’ll get better. The awesome thing is that we have so many great choices for clients. There’s something for everyone!

For me Voyager marking on read when you scroll past a post is just a killer feature

In not sure if its the only one, but on Voyager you just have to go settings then general and the option to mark as read on scroll is there. Its super convienent though!

HighsightTIL you can make links to settings by long-pressing them. That’s actually awesome as hell.
The fact that you can link to a freaking setting is amazing. I love this app.
And people still think Sync is overhyped. I’ve legit never seen any other app being able to do this

Not open source, payment if you don’t want ads. Valid criticisms, but it’s still the best app UX wise, by far, so the blame is not on the users, it’s on open source projects to do better

That’s a high claim when tehre’s features I want that other apps do that this doesn’t, great user experience. Just say that you prefer it, stating it as a fact reads extremely arrogant and might be why some other people are getting pissed.
What features?
Marking posts as read as you scroll by them for example, this way every time I refresh the page I see no repeat posts.
Another one that I’ve seen mentioned by users in some of these posts is that the “hide” swipe action doesn’t exist, and it does in connect.
Idk, I’m not saying that the app is bad, it’s just that the amount of people claiming that it’s the apex of all creation is way too overbearing.
I think both of those exist, I know the first one does, you just have to enable it in settings, and if I swipe to the left all the way on a post it becomes hidden.
I also wasn’t challenging you or anything, I just like to hear what other people want to see if it’s something I didn’t know I would want.
Both of those features exist.

People are upset because they want to use a premium service without paying for it. The dev was kind enough to add a free version, which is supported by ads. However, the ads in the free version use trackers (just like pretty much every ad service), so people are getting hysterical that the app is “spying” on them.
It would be one thing if this was the only app for Lemmy, but there’s numerous other apps on the market they could use.
Although none of them are even half as polished as Sync 😉
It’s mostly foss (free, open source software) linux guys doing what they do: Telling people what software they should use.

lemmy is crowded with the FOSS and privacy crowd. it’s what makes lemmy so much better than reddit.
ita reasonable that a paid app, with ads and telemetry isn’t their traditional jam.
I just use Artemis for kbin and a browser for lemmy until lemmy support drops

Apparently sync was a popular reddit app (I think, I never heard of it before), which has now launched for lemmy. The result being that 50% of all posts on lemmy is now about sync for some reason.
Guerrilla marketing or just very very dedicated fans?
