At this point I imagine Nintendo is feeling pressure to make their next console as they’ve had to contend with Android projects spinning up to emulate the console’s already weak hardware. Why own a switch when you can take a phone, slap on a pair of controllers and call it day?
Skulltula@nolannice @TheTechNerd Yeah, it feels like we’ve been hearing rumors and “leaks” about a Switch 2/Switch Pro every other week since 2018. I’ll start caring once there’s something official from Nintendo about it.
Send_me_nude_girlsBefore it was rumors, now we know they’ve send out dev kits, huge difference. They officially said no to a new console before end of 2023, which leaves us with early 2024, again it’s consistent with what we know of the dev/release cycle. Of course every wannabe leaker can say there’s an upcoming Switch2, because of course there will be.

If that was true, it would give the article some more believability. Unfortunately, the author did not fact check, even on Wikipedia. Nintendo announced that they were working on a new console exactly 2 year before it was released (web.archive.org/…/2015-03-17-nintendo-nx-is-new-h…) and had announced the release 10.5 months before the system came out (latimes.com/…/la-et-hc-nintendo-dates-its-success…).
They won’t show it before the holiday season. It would cause some potential Switch buyers to just wait for the new one.
Almost 7 years later you would think everyone who wants one, already got one.
Sales are already declining. And if Switch 2 has full backward compatibly it wouldn’t at least hurt sales of games since those games will run the same but hopefully better on the new hardware.
Without backward compatibly some people might skip games in order to save it for the new hardware
devfuuuMy friend bought a new switch last week. Normal people don’t care or are watching or waiting for when a new console comes out.
Yeah my buddy just got one last month and immediately bought both Zelda games for it.
He just wanted to play them finally. If he’s going to wait this long to do that he could care less about a potential new system that’ll have less games.

A lot of the owners already got their system 4+ years. Likely more. People are going to look into more powerful hardware some day. Nintendo should be ahead of that and let them be the one with the more powerful hardware.

Not out-powering I know but if they have something better than now then it’s easier to choose for Nintendo again instead of a Steam Deck or something similar
That wasn’t your original point though. Fact is that millions of people who might want a Switch don’t have one.

News will come when Nintendo are ready to let us know. I, like everyone, think it’ll be within the next year, but I’m taking every article with a mound of salt till we hear something from Nintendo themselves.
They’re going to be rumored to show it off at every trade event ever. But, really, they’ll just have their own presentation whenever they want, like they always do.

VM_AbrantesWith the reports of Metroid Prime 4 having to restart development from scratch and getting no news after that, the switch successor speculation is really starting to add up.
I find it highly unlikely, Gamescom isn’t a really big event and lately Nintendo tends to announce stuff with their own directs. But hey, it might still happen, who knows.
For whatever reason, the fact that these “news” sites keep latching onto blatant rumors annoys me. I seem to find rumors completely useless.
