Never believe minimizers who lie and say there’s nothing more we can do to mitigate the spread of #COVID. This would be a huge game-changer!

Scientists are developing a breathalyzer that can detect coronavirus in just one or two breaths and provide results in less than 1 minute. The test could be more accurate than rapid home tests and faster than PCR tests.

New breath test shows promise for rapid COVID-19 detection

@luckytran I love how scientists such as yourself need to fight against some corporate media machine utilizing conspiracy theories and myths about Covid or climate change for mere political advantage

@luckytran

The current tests are easy, if you’re not an idiot. To quote The Newsroom as written by Aaron Sorkin, we can safely add a 4th category in which Americans lead:

“We lead the world in only 3 categories: number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where we spend more than the next 26 countries combined, 25 of whom are allies. And morons. Jesus H Christ! We’re far and away the largest supplier of morons on Earth!”

@luckytran @grrrr_shark oh thank the gods. Shoving qtips up my nose and down my throat makes me throw up!
@luckytran Who cares about Covid in 2023 anyways...
@luckytran I can't think of anything one could say that about. (Speaking for "we" often has the pitfall of revealing one's ignorance.)
@luckytran I also imagine how this can be repurposed for other diseases!

Sure hope that it's real. Anything that makes such broad claims (better than any existing technology in several disjoint ways) makes me instantly suspicious, but I really, really hope it plays out.

something more recent but unfortunately still seems to be at R&D stage. I really want both the breathalyzer version and the test the ambient air in the room version. https://engineering.wustl.edu/news/2023/Team-to-develop-breathalyzer-test-for-COVID-RSV-influenza-A.html

I would love to help with testing this. I think I'm a pretty good bug writer and I find edge cases often.

How Varro Plans to Make Money While Giving Away Its Pathogen-Detecting Breakthroughs - Varro Life Sciences

A lot has changed inside the labs of the St. Louis-based startup Varro Life Sciences. In just a handful of months, its space inside the Cortex Innovation District, at 20 South Sarah Street, has gone from mostly empty lab benches to a more vibrant biomedical development space. Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe will be in town this morning to…
