Don't want to make any of you too envious ...

But Calgary Folk Fest was amazing. So many brilliant, hard working musicians, volunteers, behind the scenes crew members making the magic happen.

Anyone else do Folk Fest? Which set was your favourite? Which artists made you cry or feel big feelings?

On this, I want to bring your attention to a little coffee house in Tuxedo: Congress Coffee.

This place is the coolest. Go there when it's quiet and peruse the photography exhibit on the wall. Go there when the beats are bold and so's the coffee. Go there when the sun's shining and sit outside under the fairy lights. Go there when it's raining and hide in the cozy space, grab a book from the book fridge.

Also also...

I am not paid to say this nor am I affiliated with Congress Coffee anymore than just a happy customer who wants to see this place thrive.

There aren't many neat little places like this outside of the city centre so I think it's important to get the word out about them. Please boost and spread the word about Congress Coffee! A place to enjoy tunes outside the booze scene. Yay!

@ShanonRose This “book fridge” has my curiosity going! Hadn’t heard of this place before so I appreciate you’ve shared it here. Will def check it out!
@laurel the book fridge is awesome! Went there, grabbed a book and a latte and had a pretty inexpensive Sunday morning out. 😃 I'll have to take a photo of the book fridge!

@laurel also... They have a daily sandwich recommendation by side-eye Jesus. I have yet to try one cause I'm always there when I don't feel like having a sandwich but one of these days

@ShanonRose Aaaah I am SO about this! I’m in recovery and getting to the stage where I am more interested in finding cool spaces to venture out of my bubble into. So this is such a perfect recommendation! Serious kudos to you!

@laurel aw no. Did you have a bad bout of COVID?

This may be the perfect place for you! It's small, too. So if you're slowly expanding your bubble, this is a great place to go!

@ShanonRose OH! I actually hadn’t considered ways it has been like COVID. But no actually I am ~9 months into addiction recovery. 😅 Many similar features though actually, particularly with the isolation, now that I am contemplating this. I guess healing does have quite a distinct design all across the board.

@laurel sorry for my very late response. I totally did not get a notification for your message! 😕

9 months is awesome. 💜 Addiction recovery sure seems like a rough journey. I've not done it myself but been with friends who have. There do seem to be similarities between the two (from what I can tell, anyway!).

I just went down to Congress on Sunday and thought of you! I really hope you find the place as inviting and cozy as I have.

@ShanonRose Aw! Your thoughtfulness is so uplifting and encouraging! Thank you 😊

Well safe to say that the hopes and dreams can officially be considered actualized! ✨

Book Fridge located! What a gem of a little spot. Hugely appreciate you for taking the time to give them a shout out because I am definitely adding it to my list of cozy hang outs!

@laurel 🤗 💜 Yes!

Ahhhh!! I love that you went and found it. Did you check out any of the book fridge material?

If you ever want a coffee with a stranger, seriously, I love meeting up with new people and I'm not far from there. I'm going to start going to more of their events, too. Cause where else in the city can you go to shows at a coffee house?? I think I might give them all my money. 😂

@laurel oh oh and all the plants! I see you're a fellow plant lover so I bet you loved that fridge corner with the books and plants. 💚
@ShanonRose Oh totally! I’m definitely up for that! It’s so close to me as well which was actually even more surprising than the concept of a “book fridge”. Hilariously I was attending a Mon-Fri in that area for months until spring and never had any clue about it! Feel free to message me anytime if you have a show you’re thinking you’d want to check out and I’d gladly join ya! 😊

@laurel awesome! I'll do that. I've got a chaotic schedule until October so likely no shows but if I spontaneously decide to go, I'll message you! 😃

Hahaha! I know what you mean re its geographical location. I, too, was surprised. 😆

I don't know how long they've been open for but I've only just discovered them. I was desperate for a good coffee that's not as far away as The Roasterie and found Congress on Google maps!

@ShanonRose Such a great find! YES - the vibe there totally brought me back to my Roasterie days of the past! I rejected the suburbs when my family harshly transplanted us from Acadia to… McKenzie Towne area. In retaliation, I determined I was *actually* going to identify as an inner city kid. The Roasterie was among my first favourite hangouts and I somehow earned myself the nickname Paul by one of the baristas. Some of my fondest memories truly! Still cherish that nickname.
@laurel aw! That's such a lovely story. Hahaha! I'm laughing at you rebelling against the suburbs! 🤣 So were you still living down in McKenzie Towne when you were frequenting The Roasterie? Cause that's one heck of a distance to travel!
@ShanonRose Hahaha indeed I did! So when you say “not as far as The Roasterie”, I know… I know all too well… 😅🤣 It’s just so challenge to find good spots the further you venture away from the inner city. So these gems tucked away with something special going on are all the more delightful!

@laurel Hahaha! Okay, that's commitment. 😂

It really IS challenging to find good spots away from the core. Congress Coffee's going to get my entire life's savings so they can stay alive. 😆 Everything else around here is Tim's and Starbucks. Not that there's anything wrong with Tim's or Starbucks but I sure do love the charm and soul of independent coffee houses.
