It's a matter that if you are defamed you have the right to demand information on who defamed you so you can take civil action against them. This information doesn't have to be made public, but it needs to be available to the interested party.

Once they get that, then they can take it to court to have the statements found defamatory and then removed. Until then, they can stay up.
