Paris Marxi’m furnishing an apartment next month and everything in it is going to be so fucking dumb. no alexas, no wifi lightbulbs, no internet-connected appliances. i’m even getting a TV i can put in basic mode without the apps.

@TWDickson The recent Sony and TCLs with Google allow you to set them up as basic TVs without apps and Google tracking.
calvin 🛋️ @parismarx honestly, one of the features I look for in a TV is how quickly it turns on and displays the thing I want it to. I wonder how much a TV’s “smart” features get in the way of that.

Watching the horrors unfold@parismarx How do you find a dumb screen in 2023? My favorite brand, Sony, has Android TV preloaded.
@praetorianpi apparently their newer panels with Google allow you to set them up in a basic mode that doesn’t have apps or Google tracking. that’s my workaround
