Sea of Stars has completed development and gone gold!
Hope itās a good a place as any to ask this. Iāve got an itch for a jrpg in the classic style, but one with modern conveniences.
Never finished FFVI because I put it down and later didnāt know where I was nor was doing. Completed Golden Sun I and II, but only with the aid of walkthroughs. Tried a buch of others but donāt really remember them.
CrossCode - this isnāt a jrpg per ser but Iād say itās heavily inspired by them. Iāve been playing it for a while and it really is a gem of a game. I adore it
Other modern games which are a jrpgs that I havenāt played but heard good things are Chained Echoes and Octopath Traveller
I love seeing all the CrossCode recommendations, and on Lemmy of all places. Here I thought no one knew about it!
Easily my favorite game of all time. I donāt think it ever drops the ball, the combat is awesome, the story is incredible, and the characters are so well written that youāll think theyāre actually real people.
The biggest criticism is the gameās puzzles, but they arenāt really as bad as some (very impatient) people make them out to be, and there are options to decrease the difficulty of the puzzles.
Dude I had CrossCode on my steam wishlist for like 4 years or so and never thought much about it, until at the beginning of this year, I saw a video basically saying to no let games like this one die in obscurity when they deserve the attention and praise of AAA games.
So I bought it on Steam sale and fuck, I wholeheartedly agree with that video. I just beat my first dungeon and got the first element and itās just so much fun. Love the characters to death. Like I said, it truly is a severely underrated gem that needs more praise so Iām doing my best to spread the love lol
I love crosscode. Although I'd say it is more of an action rpg than a jrpg. The combat system is real time hack and slash with only a select set of special abilities you unlock as you play.
Still, the other elements are very jrpg-ish. Loads of people, items, and exploration. And lots of talking.
Definitely Chained Echoes. It has a lot of modern touches.
You get healed after every fight and so you actually get to use skills. You only level up after boss battles so the game is scaled properly and you dont need to grind. The overheat system is also a good mechanic to spice up turn-based battles.
I heavily recommend CrossCode. Hands-down one of my all time faves.
Chained Echoes was also published by Deck13 and is equally amazing. Itās turn-based, unlike CrossCode.
Wishlists, looks like a great Deck game.
Maybe for when I finish Eastward.
