You ever notice when neurotypicals ask "How are you?" they never want an honest answer?

@pynkbites this this this this

how the fuck does this not break down the idea of honesty and authenticness around people, i never want to have a mask, i always want to be genuine, this stuff just frustrates me endlessly

@ShadowJonathan It's almost like they ask to give themselves the self-satisfaction of pretending to care, but balk at actually performing the emotional labor that empathy entails.
@pynkbites It's funny, because Czech culture is to actually provide a honest answer, so all English textbooks were so weird to me, like "I'm fine, and you?" was presented as the obvious answer and I was so confused. Then I found out that english speaking foreigners consider us a "nation of complainers" for that 🙃
@shine I like the Czech way better
@pynkbites I just don't get how NTs don't understand that it's also extremely unhealthy. Like, bottling it up and going "yea, I'm fine" all the time? We are supposed to be social beings, sharing is important.
@pynkbites sometimes I'll just say "hi" back and that's good enough. But like, if you're talking about if something's not going super well, you could still give an honest answer that is pretty superficial, like "could be better."
@pynkbites Small talk is generally awful, IMO
