[Opinion] About Lemmy - Lemmy.world

Hi guys. This is not going to be a long post and I will briefly explain why I didn’t like Lemmy and going straight back to Reddit. 1. Lemmy is not a likable name. 2. There are so much socialists/communists around, including Lemmy’s founders. Even the ‘subreddits’ called communities. 3. Every app I tried is buggy. 4. Lemmy world usually experiences connection problems. 5. Content is not likable enough. I’m reading Reddit to relax, laugh and chill. Lemmy can’t provide that yet. Memes here are generally low effort. That’s all and thanks anyway! Catch y’all later!

  • actually that’s a reason??
  • I barely see them, but what I did see today was several people saying ‘Fuck the CCP’ with a ton of upvotes.
  • Have you tried the webapps, wefwef/voyager and … mymlm or whatever it’s called? Those are apparently really good. Remember there was no Reddit app until the community built it, and the apps weren’t perfect at the start either, but they did get there. Have fun using the piece of shit official reddit app, since that’s your only option now.
  • First legitimate reason. It’s a busy instance. Try making an account on a less busy instance. I am connecting through lemmy.nz and I have no problems. It’s easy to copy communities over with Lasim.
  • Second legitimate reason. Well, half. If you want better content, why don’t you take the initiative and help make Lemmy a better place? This is kind of like ‘everyone else isn’t doing the work for me.’
  • Content is a real issue, and I don’t think the solution is “you just need to be a better poster”, what makes Reddit good is that even the most niche hobby has an active community, you just don’t get that on Lemmy.

The fact that all instances can make the same community doesn’t improve the survival rate of small communities, having 2-3 communities with 100-200 members is just worse than 1 community with 600 members. It’s only once a community reaches critical mass that having multiple communities is an advantage, but it’s more likely to just kill communities that are not very popular.

Is there a way of "merging" multiple related communities into a single view in the lemmy 'federation'? detailed question inside - Lemmy.world

Not sure if I understand this, but I think the way the lemmy federation works is: * there are multiple servers in the federation (for example, lemmy.world, lemmy.ml [http://lemmy.ml], lemmy.whatever, etc.) * each server can have multiple communities, which are like subreddits * so, for example, each server can have its own community for photography. Q1: is my summary correct? Q2: is there a way to subscribe to multiple related communities across different servers and “merge” those communities into a single view? so that I don’t have to click on each separate one? edit: for example, if there are 3 servers that each have a photography community, can I merge them into a single “photography” view? Sorry if this is a silly question (or if the answer is obvious).

I’m not sure what get implemented in #818, but it sounds like it just allows you to group multiple communities into one feed?
I would still be happy with that
Sure, it would be a big QoL improvement.
