Ok, Mastodon, listen. My debut novel just got out of proofs and we have the cover art. Which means that, pretty soon here, I need to start promoting the book.

But, I'm still kinda sorta new here.

So, how would you all prefer I natter on about this fantasy, unicorns, and magic thing I wrote?

@Manigarm yeah sure I can listen all day
@Manigarm Congratulations! Please keep me in your #FantasyFiction loop. 🦄
@cheriecreationstruck You'll be sick of hearing about it, I can promise you that!
@Manigarm Doubtful. I’m looking forward to the publicity blitz, buying and reading your book, and sharing my review.
@Manigarm please expound often and vociferously!
@sivy I will take this as a mandate!

@Manigarm image description:

A beautifully ornamented book entitled "LostWith Notes" on a table. Cover image is an elaborate drawing of a unicorn. Some drawings of flowers scattered about, with a magnifying glass lying nearby.

@Manigarm My guess would be keep talking about it, follow lots of bright people, and use hashtags a lot so peoole can find you in searches. Others who actually do this stuff will probably have better suggestions!
@Manigarm I feel like an intro with a link to a little excerpt would get quite a lot of distribution. But that's just me.

@Manigarm

Just share what you love about your project! Most here don't want megacorps filling the fedi with ads, but are very happy to see / boost individual creators talking about their passions!

My only tips (not rules!) would be:
1. Make sure to include a description of any image. Many people won't boost without one, or can't see it.
2. *If possible* post a link to a non Amazon source. Amazon's not widely beloved here. :)
3. Share the fedi love and boost often. We're all the algorithm :)

@Manigarm I have read a lot of fantasy books, but none about unicorns. I'm all ears.
@schoeters Evil unicorns. She's the villain :)
@Manigarm talk about it as much as you like. Link excerpts, reviews, ARCs. You name it.
If anyone gives you grief on your instance, wandering.shop is a great place that caters to and hosts a bunch of SF/F-type authors. Migration reportedly sucks, but I don’t know if people on mastodon.social are scolds about self-promotion.
@c0dec0dec0de Well, I guess I am about to find out aren't I! At least I know where to go if I need to though. :)
