Deceit isn't just a routine part of Musk's public statements. It's a core practice in how he does business. But if this Reuters blockbuster about the car-range lies from Tesla, apparently at his direction, doesn't result in severe penalties, then we'll know how thoroughly our "regulators" are in the tank for this guy. https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/tesla-batteries-range/
Tesla’s secret team to suppress thousands of driving range complaints

About a decade ago, Tesla rigged the dashboard readouts in its electric cars to provide “rosy” projections of how far owners can drive before needing to recharge, a source told Reuters.

Beyond the con to help sales and brush off the complainers there was this little bit where if you complained Tesla wouldn't tell you if they found other problems with your car.

I wonder what dangers this caused.

Standout bit:

“Inside the Nevada team’s office, some employees celebrated canceling service appointments by putting their phones on mute and striking a metal xylophone, triggering applause from coworkers who sometimes stood on desks. The team often closed hundreds of cases a week and staffers were tracked on their average number of diverted appointments per day.

Managers told the employees that they were saving Tesla about $1,000 for every canceled appointment, the people said.”
