Looks like I’ll have a few days to kill in #oxford in the near future. Accepting recommendations for places to eat/drink!
@overbey What’s your vibe? What kind of places do you like?
@garrettc omnivorous & adventurous— when I was last in London I did S Asian joints like Dishoom and Hoopers, farm to table at St John, and game at the Jugged Hare. Know nothing about the food scene in Oxford so any advice welcome!
@overbey Okay, so the centre of town is a bit chain heavy, but it’s worth exploring for the history and the museums (happy to give you tips there if you want), most of the good food/drink places are in the outskirts, but we’re a small city, everything is walkable. Jericho, to the north and Cowley Road/St Clements to the east are where you get the proper (in my opinion) Oxford experience. I’ll do a follow up post for each area.
@overbey Jericho: Pierre Victoire, fantastic French bistro. Duke of Cambridge, Rauls, Freuds are great bars, especially Freuds. It’s a deconsecrated church. Catch it at the right time and the vibes are really good. You’ll also be close to the Jericho Tavern, which if you’re into music, are where Radiohead and Supergrass played their first gigs. Rickety Press is a good pub that does a great chicken and waffles, they lace the maple syrup with sriracha. It works.

@overbey East Oxford, that’s my neighbourhood, so I might wax lyrical 😁

Basically, take a walk up Cowley Road. Lots of great bars and restaurants. Mario’s for Italian, Big Society if you fancy good cocktails and American diner food. Za’atar does great Middle East food.

A little walk off Cowley Road, find the Chester Arms and their steak platter.

@overbey I think that might be enough? Also happy to be a tour guide if timings work.
@garrettc amazing! Many thanks for the tips. Will be in touch, we owe you a drink.
@overbey My pleasure. I love this city.
