@marcel @[email protected] regarding looking for "a benefit only NFT can", that's not the goal. Technology advancements don't have to do something IMPOSSIBLE to do otherwise; many technologies advance existing processes to be better in different ways. NFT tech provides unique identifiers, and compared to other "serial number" methods, are easier to create, easier to store and retrieve, and near-impossible to counterfeit.
@marcel @Midnight @mpesce Regrettably, there are a lot of counterfeit (physical) trading cards; even instances when several rare cards having the identical serial number suddenly appear. Telling the real thing apart from fakes is sometimes easy, but increasingly dependent on forensic methods which aren’t readily available to the average collector. I’m not an expert, but surely a serial number cannot reasonably be the sole information associated with an NFT?

@henry @marcel @[email protected] A "serial number" is the minimum requirement to be an NFT. A raffle ticket could be issued as an NFT and would be the most simple token possible (just a number). Most projects build upon that base and give the token some visual and some purpose/utility.

It's the same as the fact that you could use HTML to create a webpage that's a blank white page (it meets the minimum requirement to be "a webpage"); developers start there, and then add their custom purpose on top of that

@mpesce @Midnight @marcel I think it is also a requirement that the “serial number” must be unique. There are probably many NFTs called “Bored Ape #1” for sale, which all have the same edition number, #1, but where there are additional identifiers which render the NFT unique. A nefarious person can easily copy a jpeg, and assign any title and edition number; but as far as I understand, cannot fake all identifiers, e.g the contract identifier.
@Midnight @marcel @mpesce If there are two digital collectibles called “Babe Ruth 12345”, and only one of them can be an official digital collectible, you don’t need forensics to know which one is the official digital collectible.
