If you commit sensitive data, such as a password or SSH key into a Git repository, you can remove it from the history. To entirely remove unwanted files from a repository's history you can use either the git filter-repo tool or the BFG Repo-Cleaner open source tool.

@bikerglen it’s a wild thing, to go form making your own commits to private repo with no worries for safety, to publishing to public and all of a sudden you have to sanitize your code lol
@tekeous I included my pushover.net token in a commit at work when writing a script to notify that a batch job on the grid was done. My coworkers had a great time sending useless garbage notifications to my phone until I changed the token.

@tekeous @bikerglen hah, once I was streaming the bring up of my custom HVAC controlled and cat’ed out the config that included my WiFi password.

Cue me closing the stream, scramble to create separate smart home network and change all of the credentials, before resuming.
